TELAGA WARNA

 

Long-long ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a king. People called their king His Majesty Prabu. Prabu was a kind and wise king. No wonder if that country was prosperous. There’s no hunger in this kingdom.

It was a very happy condition. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn’t go any children. It made the royal couple very sad. Some old men and woman who were respected by Prabu suggested the king to adopt a child. But Prabu and the queen didn’t agree. “No, thank you. But for us, our own daughter or son is better than adopted children.”

The queen was very sad. She often cried. That was why Prabu devoiced to go. He went to the jungle. There he prayed to God. Everyday he begged for a child. His dream comes true. A few months later, the queen got pregnant. All people in the kingdom felt happy. They sent many presents to the place to express their happiness.

Nine months later, a princess was born. People sent their presents again as a gift to a little princess. This baby grew as a beautiful teenager then.

Prabu and queen loved their daughter so much. They get what ever she wanted. It made princess a very spoiled girl. When her wish couldn’t be realized, she became very angry. She even said bad things often. A true princess wouldn’t do that. Even through the princess behaved badly, her parents loved her, so did the people in that kingdom.

Day by day, the princess grew more beautiful. No grills couldn’t compare with her. In a few days, princess would be 17 years old, people of that kingdom went to place. They brought many presents for her. Their present’s gift was very beautiful. Prabu collected the presents. There were really. Many presents. Then Prabu stored them in a building. Some times, he could take them to give to his people.

Prabu only took some gold and jewels. Then he brought them on the goldsmith. “Please make a beautiful necklace for my daughter,” said Prabu, “My pleasure, Your Majesty, “the goldsmith replied. The goldsmith worked with all his heart and his ability. He wanted to create the most beautiful necklace in the world because he loved his princess.

The birthday came. People gathered in the palace field. When Prabu and Queen appeared, people welcomed the happily. Prabu and his wife waved to their beloved people.

Cheers were louder and louder when the princess appeared with her fabulous pretty face. Everybody admired her beauty. Prabu got up from his chair. A lady gave him a small and glamorous pillow. A wonderful necklace was on it. Prabu took that necklace. “My beloved daughter, today I give this necklace to you. This necklace is a gift fro people in this country. They love you so much. They presented it for you to express their happiness, because you have growing o a woman. Please, wear this necklace,” said Prabu.

Princess accepted the necklace. She looked at the necklace in a glace. “I don’t want to accept it! It’s ugly!” shouted the princess. Then she threw the necklace. The beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor.

Not everybody could say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would did that cruel thing. Nobody spoke. In their silence, people heard the queen crying. Every woman felt sad and began crying too. Then everybody was crying.

Then there was a miracle. Earth was crying. Suddenly, from the under ground, a spring emerged. It made a pool of water. The place was getting full. Soon the place became a big lake. The lake sank all of the kingdom.

Nowadays the water on that lake is no as full as before. The is only small lake now. People called the lake “Talaga Warna”. It is mean “Lake of Color”. It’s located is Puncak. West Java. On a bright day, the lake is full of color. So beautiful and amazing. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and sky around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the princess’s necklace, which spread at the bottom of the lake.

THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA

 

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He traveled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.

 One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.

 It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.

 Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.

 On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.

 "Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"

 Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.

 Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that.

 So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.

 

GOLD CUCUMBAR

 

At a alive village a old widow that names mbok Sarni. Every day he spends alone the time, because mbok Sarni doesn't has a child. Actually he thirsts for has child, so that can help it to work.

 At one particular afternoon go mbok Sarni to forest to look for wood, and intermediate road mbok Sarni come in contact with giant very monstrous. “Hei, want where you?”, ask the giant. “A only want to gather firewood, so to permit me to go”, answer mbok Sarni. “hahahaha…. you may via after you give me a human child for eat”, word the giant. Then mbok Sarni answer, “But I don't have child”.

After mbok Sarni say that he doesn't has child and thirst for has child, so the giant give it cucumber seed. that giant says, “Hey old woman, this is me give you are cucumber seed. Plant this seed at your house yard, and after your two week will get a child. But remember, deliver that child in me after the age six year”.

After two week, that cucumber is visible bears very dense and there one of the cucumber big enough. Mbok Sarni then take it, and after spitted obvious its contents a baby very pretty. That baby is then is given gold cucumber name.

More gold cucumber day more grow big, and mbok Sarni very because the house not lonely again. All the jobs can finished swiftly because gold cucumber aid.

Final on a certain day come the giant to collected promise. Mbok Sarni very fear, and doesn't want to lose gold cucumber. Then mbok Sarni say, “Hei giant, come here two year again. More adulterers this child, so more delicious to at eat”. The giant even also agree and leave house mbok Sarni.

Time two year not old ones time, therefore every day mbok Sarni think of how to so that the child is not brought the giant. Heart mbok Sarni very worried and final one night mbok Sarni dream. In that the dream, he is informed so that gold cucumber meets ascetic at mount.

Morning after mbok Sarni order gold cucumber to soon meet that ascetic. After come in contact with ascetic, gold cucumber then tell about the arrival purpose. The ascetic then give it four little parcels cucumber seed its contents, needle, salt,  and asi. “Throw one per one this parcel, if you are chased by giant”, ascetic command. Then cucumber means return home,  and direct keep parcel from the ascetic.

Morning it giant comes again to collected promise. “Hei old woman, which that child? I haven't holder back to eat him”, shout the giant. Then mbok Sarni answer, “Don’t you take this my child alas giant, because I am very pity to him. Better I am eating to you”. Giant doesn't receptive offer from mbok Sarni that, and final big angry. “Which that child? Which gold cucumber? ”, shout the giant.

Because not bring oneself to see mbok Sarni cry then, so gold cucumber out from the hidden place. “A here giant, catch me if you can!!!” shout gold cucumber.

The giant chase it, and gold cucumber begins to throw cucumber containing pocket. Quite uncanny, forest is the fruit dense cucumber arable land. The giant be too retarded, because cucumber sticks then coil around the body. But final the giant success free also, and begin Chase gold cucumber again. Then gold cucumber strews second pocket needle containing, in a moment grow bamboo trees very tall and sharp. With foot bleed because stuck bamboo the giant then chase.

Then gold cucumber opens third gift salt containing. In a second The forest be vast ocean. But that ocean is easily is passed the giant. Gold cucumber last final strew asi, in a second formed mud ocean that boil, and the plunged giant in it. Final the giant die.

Gold cucumber say thank God in God the one God, because rescued from cruel giant. Final gold cucumber and mbok Sarni happy alive and peace.
