THE MISSING CHILD
Once upon a time, there was a husband and a wife living with their only daughter, Milo. They lived in a garden.
One day, the parents went to the garden to clear the grass. Milo was left alone in the hut. Not long after they left, a strange looking creature, a forest devil, came and took the child away with him.
A monkey happened to be around there saw this.
When the husband and wife got hungry, they went back home. Arriving at their hut, they didn’t find their child there. They then searched for her around the garden. Then they met the monkey.
The monkey asked, “Who are you looking for?”
They answered, “We are looking for our child who has gone missing .”
The monkey answered, “Just now I saw an old lady, with long breasts, carrying a child on her way
to the jungle over there.”
They then asked the monkey to lead them to the place in the forest where the devil went.
They left early in the morning, trekked through the mountains. They finally arrived in a flat land on a hill.
There, there was a big stone with a hole. From the distance, they heard the voice of the devil, saying,
“Open please, open, you the stone. Let this child enter, and then you close it after then.”
When the husband and wife arrived at the stone, they found out that their child was already inside the stone. They cried. The monkey felt sorry for them, and said,
“I will go and get some help.”
“Please do”, they said.
The monkey went to see the buffalo, the horse, and porcupine, to ask for their help. The monkey said to them,
“I came here to ask for your help to turn over and open up a stone in the forest up there.”
“Why should we turn it over?”, they asked.
“There is a child kidnapped by a devil, and has been entered and hidden in the cave inside the stone. The stone entrance is now closed”, the money explained.
“Okay, but what do we get in return, if we can do that?”
The monkey answered, “The child’s parents said that whoever can save their child will be given something special that is not found elsewhere in the world.”
They were then taken to meet the parents of Milo. The parents were very happy, and said,
“Please help us to turn this stone over.”
Then, they sang, saying, “Mr. Buffalo, oh Mr. Buffalo, would you please butt the stone.”
With all of its strength, the buffalo butted the stone. Unfortunately, it failed. Because of the Mr. Buffalo failed,
Mr. Horse took his turn to help.
The parents sang again, “Oh, Mr. Horse, Mr. Horse, please kick the stone.”
After kicking the stone repeatedly, Mr. Horse too failed. It was then followed by Mr. Pig’s attempt, who in the end failed too. All of those who had attempted could not help to turn the stone over.
Finally, it was the procupine who had its turn. The mother of the child asked for help from the porcupine while singing, “Oh, Mr. Procupine, Mr. Procupine, turn the stone over.”
It turned out that the attempt by Mr. Procupine was sucessful. Milo was successfully taken out of teh stone, and she was saved.
Because of the success, the procupine was presented with an underground castle. That is why the procupine likes living underground up to now.
Tanya Kera, “Kalian sedang mencari apa?” Jawab mereka,
“Kami sedang mencari anak kami yang hilang”. Jawab Kera,
Orang tua nona Milo merasa sangat senang, lalu berkata,
Usaha tuan landak ternyata berhasil.
